Get off to a flying start at NMIT
New Zealand Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering graduate Dylan Gregory has been working in the aviation industry for over a decade and has seen many fellow graduates along the way.
“Over the last ten years, every workplace I have been employed at has had NMIT graduates,” Dylan says.
Working with the Northern Emergency Service Trust(external link) as a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer in Whangarei, Dylan believes the NMIT Certificate that he completed in 2011 is the best way to get into the industry.
“It now seems most employers want people to complete a pre-employment course before being hired.”
During his course, Dylan studied several license papers alongside the course content.
“I also used the NMIT online diploma courses to help gain license papers.”
Dylan has seen some big changes in the industry and the way aircraft are maintained over the years.
“Manufacturers are starting to focus more on replacing rather than repairing components, and duel-rated engineers are becoming in high demand as Avionics are becoming more and more integrated into aircraft,” Dylan says.
He says health and safety continues to be a big focus.
“More and more systems are being put in place to support safety in the workplace.”
