The aim of this course is to develop confidence in your ability to draw using a range of tools and materials.

The emphasis will be on learning to see, using basic drawing approaches and materials to describe a range of subjects.

Selected expressive and observational drawing exercises will be used to encourage a brave yet sensitive approach to making marks while discovering a new way of seeing the world around you.

The teaching method will be hands on learning with plenty of reference to examples and practical demonstrations.

This drawing course caters for those with little or no drawing experience at all.

Note: There is a maximum of 16 places available on this course.

Entry requirements

To be eligible to enrol on this ACE Course, you must be:

a New Zealand citizen or resident
16 years of age or over
not a full-time secondary school student

However, if you are a full-time secondary school student, NMIT is able to enrol you if you meet all of the following:

are 16 years of age and over, and
attend this course outside of normal school hours, and
have obtained approval from the relevant school principal, and
have obtained approval from the TEC to enrol - please allow NMIT at least 14 working days before course start date to obtain approval from TEC. If approval is not gained before the course start date, you will be shifted to the next available intake.

What experience do I need?

No previous drawing experience is required. However if you have done some drawing before and would like the opportunity to practise and develop your confidence and skills with dry media, this course would be suitable.

What will I need to bring with me?

All your paper is supplied and some materials but you will need to supply most of your own drawing materials. A list will be handed out in the 1^st session.
