Want to broaden your boating knowledge and be able to skipper a small commercial vessel? NMIT can offer you the flexibility to study around your existing career and keep a balanced lifestyle.
This programme contributes to graduates obtaining their Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) licence: Skipper Restricted Limits (SRL), allowing you to operate as a Skipper of a small vessel.
With SRL, you can perform a skipper’s (master’s) functions and duties on passenger and non-passenger ships less than 12 metres in length overall, carrying up to 19 passengers within restricted limits (which includes both enclosed and inshore limits) and on fishing vessels less than 12 metres length overall, in enclosed and inshore fishing limits. Once you have your SRL license, you can progress to larger vessels.
