Students dive deep into ocean-themed hairdressing competition.

Around fifty-five Year 12 ākonga will take part in an ‘under the sea’ themed hairdressing competition held on Friday 30 September.

Involving L2 hairdressing classes from both Nelson and Marlborough, the L4 Creative Hair and Beauty class, and the Beauty classes from across Te Tauihi, competitors will need to complete a look within a tight timeframe.

Two events will take place during the day with 30 minutes set aside for the dry hair styling and an additional 30 minutes for makeup in Event 1. Some ākonga are competing in both events which will be judged on executed shape, dress and model presentation.

Hairdressing tutor, Paula Canning, is excited about what the ākonga will produce.

“The competition focuses on participation, creativity, showing students’ ability to step out of their comfort zone in a safe environment with hoa ake and whānau, to display their skills.”

An additional fourteen hospitality learners will be joining the event, setting up a chill-out café space for everyone involved. There will be inexpensive coffees and nibbles available to purchase in The Rata Room.

The event will be held in the foyer of G-Block.
