Held over the weekend of 5-6 November at the Nelson Marina, the expo was an opportunity for people to meet the agencies who keep us safe on the water.

From free life jacket and safety checks to a life raft deployment demonstration, attendees could wander around the port, talk to experts, and find out more about Maritime New Zealand.

The training boats were on display, and tutors from Te Pūkenga NMIT Maritime department were available to discuss learning options with ākonga, alongside other industry groups such as the Police, Ministry of Primary Industries and the Nelson Harbour Master.

Several industries in the region work together to provide training for necessary maritime licenses, qualifications, and experience.

The Te Pukenga NMIT website(external link) has more information on facilities and training options.
