Commotion was an uproar
Some amazing talent was on display at the music event, Commotion, held in G-Block recently.
Students, visiting artists and other attendees were full of praise for the weekend of workshops and performances at Commotion on 12-14 August.
“These facilities are amazing,” said Sophie Bialostocki, producer and artist (otherwise known as Levyne). “If I had known about these, I would have been keen to study here.”
The event was an opportunity for anyone, regardless of where they were on their musical journey, to be exposed to content and inspiration.
Coordinators Scott Burnett and Emily Sanson brought the idea to Nelson after experiencing Commotion in Wanaka. Their aim was to demystify pathways within the music industry and spark the creative process.
Laughton Kora (Kora), Joel Shadbolt (L.A.B) and Sam Trevethick (Shapeshifter) were just three of the presenters in Nelson to run workshops and perform.
One NMIT music student who attended the event said it made them realise how relevant the course was that they were doing. Another student was excited to receive positive feedback, giving them the confidence to move forward.
